Dear friends,’ brothers & sisters; ; I have heard about the controversy swirling around the web, but as I have no real access to it, much of it is a fog to me. In any event I shall endeavor to explain my perspective on this matter. When I learned about the repressive treatment faced by a number of Iranians (in Iran), I, of course expressed my support, for I thought then, and think now, that anyone facing such suffering by Any state, needed support in their time of extremity, for they were facing isolation (solitary confinement), torture, dehumanization — and yes, Death. As. a man who has spent most of his adult life on Death Row, is it not fitting to try to assist any man, woman and/or child facing such conditions? This is, after al, not so much a political decision as it is a human one, for who can stand aside when another person suffers from the «tender mercies» of the ravenous state? Not I. Not You either.. That said, I have had a friend read the remarks of of learned scholar, V.J. Prashad, whom I have found in the past, and in this pres3nt, brilliant and insightful? Much of my thinking aligns with his. When I nodded approval of my signature, I had not read, nor had I seen a petition… Nor was one read to me,. I regret this over sight. Yet, I cannot abandon the individuals who stand naked before the rapacious A Tate. Nor can I abandon our beloved Sister, Angela Davis.. I have been an qntiimperialist since I was a teenager. I have no intention of stopping now.
